Shenzhen Airport Signage design and production case, Shenzhen Baoan International Airport is located in Baoan District, Shenzhen City, China, on the east bank of the Pearl River Estuary, as a 4F-class civil transport airport, one of the world’s top 100 airports, an international hub airport, one of the twelve major trunk airports in China, and one of China’s four major air cargo centers and express distribution centers.

Cosun Sign designed, manufactured and installed a comprehensive wayfinding and digital signage solution for Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (Terminal works and public concourse areas). The project combined directional signage, branded identity elements and high-visibility digital screens to support smooth passenger flows and provide dynamic content across arrivals, departures and retail zones.

Challenge

Shenzhen Bao’an is a high-traffic international hub with complex passenger paths and multiple transfer zones. The key challenges were: consistent brand presentation across large concourses, quick visual identification of gates and services for international travellers, integration of static wayfinding with live flight/retail information, and the need for robust, low-maintenance hardware to run 24/7 in a busy environment.

Our solution

We provided an integrated system combining:

• Standardized wayfinding signage (directional pylons, hanging signs and freestanding panels) with strict legibility, color-contrast and multilingual layout;

• Modular digital displays for flight, retail and welcome messaging, designed for high-brightness and easy content scheduling;

• Centralized content management enabling live updates, ads rotation and emergency messaging;

• Durable mechanical design for continuous operation and simplified onsite maintenance.
  This hybrid approach (static + digital) reduces passenger confusion while unlocking revenue opportunities for the airport’s retail partners.

Implementation highlights / technical specs

• Signage types: overhead wayfinders, gate pylons, baggage claim panels, directional floor-to-ceiling pylons.

• Displays: indoor-rated LED/video walls and narrow-pitch modular displays in retail corridors; flight-info screens with redundant players. Examples of similar airport-scale LED deployments are common among transportation-lead vendors.

• CMS & integration: cloud-enabled scheduling, API link to FIDS (flight information) and ad management platform for targeted retail content.

• Accessibility & standards: fonts, iconography and color-contrast optimized for universal legibility; hardware met specs for 24/7 operation and rapid on-site serviceability.

Visual & UX notes

We applied high-contrast pictograms, consistent waypoint colors, and a hierarchy-of-information so travellers can glance and proceed — a design pattern commonly used across leading transportation signage projects. Where digital and static meet, we kept type sizes and motion minimal to avoid cognitive overload in fast-moving spaces.
