O·POWER Culture and Art Center covers an area of 10,785 square meters, formerly the Huazhong Power Plant, which was built in the late 1980s. As an important energy supply facility in the Overseas Chinese Town area at that time, the Huazhong Power Plant provided energy security for the area for more than ten years through heavy oil power generation. During this period, the power plant played a significant role in supporting regional development and boosting economic construction, witnessing the historical process of the area from initial development to gradual prosperity.
However, with social progress and the rise of environmental awareness, heavy oil power generation gradually revealed its adverse effects on the ecological environment. To better meet the needs of regional sustainable development, in March 2006, the Huazhong Power Plant officially completed its historical mission and exited the historical stage. This decision not only marked the optimization and upgrading of the area’s energy structure but also laid the foundation for the subsequent establishment of the culture and art center.
After the “retirement” of the Huazhong Power Plant, its site was re-planned and utilized, and eventually transformed into today’s O·POWER Culture and Art Center. This center not only retains the unique industrial style of the power plant but also integrates modern design concepts to transform it into a comprehensive space integrating culture, art, and creativity. The birth of the O·POWER Culture and Art Center not only continues the historical context of the site but also injects new cultural vitality into the city, becoming an important cultural landmark in the region.
It is worth mentioning that during the construction of the O·POWER Culture and Art Center, COSUN provided professional signage and wayfinding system services. Through scientific and reasonable design and layout, the signage and wayfinding system effectively enhanced the center’s service functions and provided convenient spatial guidance for visitors. This not only demonstrated COSUN’ professional strength in the industry but also added more value to the operation of the O·POWER Culture and Art Center.
